Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action at VCU
Equal Opportunity
The Office of Equal Opportunity oversees the implementation and enforcement of VCU’s Preventing and Responding to Discrimination policy, as well as the Notice of Nondiscrimination, Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action. This office also has shared responsibilities under the university’s Sex-Based Misconduct Policy.
Core functions of this office include:
- Providing non-discrimination training for all university employees and student leaders.
- Investigating allegations of discrimination or harassment that fall under the Preventing and Responding to Discrimination policy or allegations against employees that fall under the Sex-Based Misconduct Policy.
- Ensuring the university’s compliance with affirmative action and equal employment opportunity mandates derived from the university’s status as a federal contractor under Executive Order 11246, Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act.
- Providing prevention-oriented consultations to schools and business units across the university on issues related to equal opportunity and non-discrimination.
You can reach the Office of Equal Opportunity by sending an email to equity@vcu.edu or calling (804) 828-1347.
Affirmative action
As an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer, VCU promotes the full realization of employment opportunity for minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, and veterans. VCU bases all employment decisions only on job requirements. These efforts apply to all employment actions, including but not limited to recruitment, selection, hiring, promotion, and compensation. The current affirmative action plan is available for review at Equity and Access Services between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Self-identification
All VCU employees are invited to voluntarily self-identify their veteran status, disability status, race and ethnicity. Providing this self-identification information will support the university’s equal employment opportunity and affirmative action initiatives. To self-identify, login to eServices and select the "Personal Information" tab. Options to self-identify veteran classification, disability status, and ethnicity and race are available in separate links.
