Title IX at VCU

The Title IX Office is one of four units within Equity and Access Services at VCU. The Title IX Office responds to all allegations of prohibited conduct defined in the university’s Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy - Interim and Sex-Based Misconduct Policy - Interim. The Title IX Office is available to meet with members of the VCU community to discuss policies, support, and resources.

No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance..

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and certain other federal and state laws prohibit discrimination on these bases in education programs and activities operated by VCU. The university complies with the requirements of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, 20 U.S.C. Sec. 1681, et seq., and subsequent regulations, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in all programs and activities receiving federal financial assistance.

2024 Changes to Title IX

On April 19th, 2024, the US Department of Education issued a Final Rule regarding Title IX. On June 17th, 2024, a federal judge in Kentucky temporarily halted the implementation of the 2024 Title IX Final Rule in Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Indiana, Virginia and West Virginia. This temporary injunction is still under review in the courts, and VCU's policies from 2020 will remain in effect until the injunction is lifted.  Please refer to the documents below for more details.
